What is Resume Writer?
Fill in your actual roles, dates, education and skills and get back written resume text — summary, experience bullets, the lot — in one of four styles, with ATS-Friendly as the default. No account, and nothing held back behind a payment at the end.
It produces text, not a designed PDF
Say this first, because it decides whether this tool is any use to you. What comes back is text you can copy as Markdown or download as a .txt file. There is no PDF, no template and no page design. Every well-known resume builder gives you a formatted document, and if a finished PDF is what you need in the next five minutes, one of those will get you there faster.
What you do here is paste the text into your own document — Word, Google Docs, whatever you already use — and let it look like your document. For a lot of people that is better, and the next section is why.
The ATS argument, properly explained
Most applications pass through an applicant tracking system before a person reads them. The system parses your file into fields: employer, title, dates, skills. If it parses badly, you are filtered out by a piece of software rather than judged by a recruiter.
The templates that parse worst are the attractive ones. Two columns confuse reading order, so a job title ends up attached to the wrong employer. Icons in place of labels mean the phone number has no field name. Skills drawn as rating bars carry no text at all. Headers, footers and text boxes are often skipped entirely. This is not a rumour — it is why "ATS-friendly template" is a selling point in the first place.
Plain, clearly structured text is the format those systems handle best. So the output here being text is not a downgrade for the part of the process that filters you; it is the format that survives it. Put it in a single-column document with ordinary headings, and it works for both the parser and the person.
The ATS-Friendly style leans further into this: conventional section names, no invented labels, and achievements written as plain lines rather than decorated fragments. Modern, Classic and Minimal shift the tone if you are sending to somewhere where personality helps.
You supply the facts — that is deliberate
The form asks for up to five positions with real companies, titles and dates, up to three education entries, your skills and languages. That structure is doing something: the tool rewrites and sharpens what you give it, rather than inventing a career for you.
Which is the right way round. An AI left to fill gaps produces plausible achievements you did not have, and the moment an interviewer asks you to talk through one, you are finished. Give it the real work and let it find better words for it.
Where it genuinely helps: turning "responsible for the reporting" into something with a verb and a result, cutting your summary down to three usable sentences, and making ten years of jobs read consistently instead of like ten separate documents written on ten different afternoons.
A word about the contact fields
Unlike the file tools on ToolsHall, this one is not browser-only — what you type is sent to a language model to be written. And the form asks for your name, email, phone, location and LinkedIn, which makes it the most personal input of any tool here.
So a practical suggestion: leave the contact fields blank. They contribute almost nothing to the writing, and you are going to type your own name and number at the top of the finished document anyway. Fill in the parts the model actually needs — roles, dates, responsibilities, skills — and keep the rest to yourself.
Then edit it
Whatever comes back is a draft. Read every line and ask whether you would defend it in an interview; cut anything you would not. Then match it to the job you are applying for, because the same resume sent unchanged to twenty postings is the reason people send twenty and hear nothing.
