Password Generator

What is Password Generator?
This password generator creates strong random passwords in your browser and shows you how strong they actually are. Nothing is sent over the network — the characters come from your browser's cryptographic random number generator, the same one used for encryption keys, and the password exists only on your screen until you copy it. That matters for a tool like this: a password that travelled to someone else's server before reaching you is not really yours.
Length is what matters, not the symbols
The generator shows an entropy figure in bits under every password, and it is the number worth watching. Entropy measures how many guesses an attacker would need; each extra bit doubles that. A 16-character password using letters, numbers and symbols lands around 100 bits, which is far beyond anything that can be brute-forced. Shortening it to 8 characters drops it to roughly 52 bits — still a large number, but no longer out of reach.
The practical lesson is that adding length beats adding character types. Going from 12 to 16 characters helps more than turning on extended symbols. The default here is 16, the slider runs from 8 to 64, and the strength label moves from Weak through Fair, Good and Strong to Very Strong as you drag it.
The options that exist for a reason
Uppercase, lowercase, numbers and symbols are all on by default. Extended symbols adds characters some older systems reject, so it is off unless you need it. Exclude ambiguous characters removes capital I, lowercase l, the digit 1, capital O and zero — turn it on for any password you will read aloud, type from a screenshot or write on paper, because those five are where transcription goes wrong. You can also generate 1, 5 or 10 at once, which is the quick way to set up several accounts in one sitting.
About memorable mode
Memorable mode joins short words with hyphens to produce something you can actually type from memory. Be aware of the trade: it draws from a small word list, so the result is far weaker than a random 16-character string — the entropy figure will tell you exactly how much weaker. Use it for a device PIN-style login or a shared Wi-Fi password, not for your email, your bank or anything holding other people's data. For those, take the random password and put it in a password manager.
