What is Word to PDF?

Turn a Word document into a PDF without uploading it anywhere. Your .docx is read inside your browser, laid out as a clean printable document, and handed to your browser's print dialog — where you choose Save as PDF to get the file. That last step is yours rather than ours, and it is worth knowing before you start.

How this works, and why it is different

Every other Word-to-PDF converter uploads your document to a server, converts it there, and sends a PDF back. That is convenient, and it means your document sits on somebody else's machine for a while.

This one never sends the file. It reads the .docx in the page, converts the content to a clean document, and opens it in a new tab with the print dialog ready. In that dialog, set the destination to Save as PDF — every modern browser offers it — and choose where to save. The result is a normal PDF.

Two practical consequences. Your browser must be allowed to open a popup for this page, or nothing appears; if that happens, allow popups and click Convert again. And because your own device does the work, there is no file size cap, no queue and no limit on how many documents you convert.

What survives the conversion, and what does not

This produces a clean, readable document rather than a pixel-exact copy of what you see in Word. Headings, paragraphs, lists, bold and italic, and tables all come through, and images embedded in the document usually do too.

What does not: headers and footers, page numbers, columns, text boxes, and Word's exact fonts, margins and page breaks. The output is set in a readable serif at a standard size, so it looks like a well-formatted document — just not identical to yours.

That makes this the right tool for a CV, a letter, an assignment, a report — anything where the words are the point. It is the wrong tool for a designed brochure or a form that has to look exactly as laid out. For those, a server-based converter will serve you better, and it is worth saying so now rather than after you have looked at the result.

.docx only

Modern Word files, ending in .docx, are what this reads. The much older .doc format is a completely different structure and will not convert. If you have one, open it in Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice and save a .docx copy first — that takes a few seconds.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does a print dialog open instead of downloading a PDF?

Because the conversion happens in your browser rather than on a server, and the browser's own Save as PDF is what produces the file. Set the destination in that dialog to Save as PDF and choose where to save. The result is an ordinary PDF.

Nothing happened when I clicked Convert.

Your browser most likely blocked the popup, since the document opens in a new tab. Allow popups for this site and click Convert again. The tool also shows a message saying the popup was blocked.

Is my document uploaded to a server?

No. The .docx is read and converted inside your browser, so a CV, contract or signed letter never leaves your device. That is also why there is no file size cap and no daily conversion limit.

Will the PDF look exactly like my Word file?

Not exactly. Headings, paragraphs, lists, bold and italic, tables and embedded images come through, but headers, footers, page numbers, columns, text boxes and Word's exact fonts and margins do not. It is a clean readable document rather than a pixel-exact copy.

Can I convert an old .doc file?

No, only modern .docx files. The older .doc format has a completely different internal structure. Open it in Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice and save a .docx copy first.

Is there a limit on file size or number of conversions?

No quota and no account. Your own device does the work, so the practical ceiling is its memory — a very long document converts faster on a computer than on a phone.
