What is PDF to Excel?

Pull the tables out of a PDF into a real Excel workbook you can sort, filter and calculate with. Each page becomes its own sheet, named after the page it came from, so a multi-page statement stays organised instead of collapsing into one long block. The conversion runs in your browser, so the PDF is never uploaded.

The sensitivity control, and when to change it

No converter reads a PDF the way you read it. A PDF stores text as items placed at coordinates, with no record of which ones form a table. Detection works by grouping items that sit at the same height into rows, then finding the vertical positions where columns line up.

That guess needs a tolerance, and this is the one tool that lets you set it. Auto is the default and handles most documents. Switch to Conservative when separate columns are being merged into one cell — it demands tighter alignment before treating items as the same row or column. Switch to Aggressive when a table is not being recognised at all, or when one row is splitting across two — it tolerates looser alignment.

If the first attempt looks wrong, changing this setting and converting again is usually enough. That single option is what everywhere else replaces with a support page.

What you get, and what defeats it

Pages that look like tables come out as proper rows and columns. Pages that do not are still included, with each line of text in a single cell, which keeps the content without inventing columns that were never there. That is deliberate — fake columns are harder to clean up than plain text.

Two things this cannot do. A scanned PDF will not work at all: those pages are pictures of text, there is nothing to read, and the tool says so rather than handing you an empty workbook. There is no OCR here. And a table split by a page break becomes two sheets, because the conversion works page by page.

Merged cells, nested headers and tables with heavy styling will need tidying afterwards. Getting the numbers into Excel is the slow part; adjusting a header row takes a moment.

Only the pages you need

By default every page is converted. Choose Specific pages and enter something like 1,3,5-8 to take just the pages with tables on them — useful on a long report where the appendix is the only part you want, and it makes the conversion faster too.

Nothing is uploaded

The extraction happens on your own device. Given that the most common input here is a bank statement, an invoice or a payroll report, that is worth more on this page than on most.

PDF to Word converts a PDF to editable text when it is prose rather than tables. Extract Text from PDF pulls out plain text with no structure at all, and Excel to CSV Converter turns the finished workbook into CSV for whatever system needs it next.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will it convert a scanned PDF to Excel?

No. A scanned page is an image of text, and this tool reads real text rather than performing OCR. It tells you clearly when a PDF contains only images. To check first, try selecting a line in the PDF - if nothing highlights, it is a scan.

The columns came out merged. What can I do?

Change the table detection sensitivity to Conservative and convert again. That requires tighter alignment before items are treated as the same row or column, which usually separates columns that were being run together.

It did not detect my table at all. What now?

Try Aggressive sensitivity, which tolerates looser alignment. Pages that still are not recognised as tables are not lost - each line comes through in a single cell, so you keep the content and can split it in Excel.

How are the sheets organised?

One sheet per page, named after the page number. A table split across a page break therefore arrives as two sheets, since the conversion works page by page.

Can I convert only certain pages?

Yes. Choose Specific pages and enter something like 1,3,5-8. On a long report where only the appendix has tables, that is both cleaner and faster.

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?

No. The extraction runs in your browser on your own device, which matters here more than most - bank statements, invoices and payroll reports are the usual input.
