What is Markdown to HTML Converter?

Convert a Markdown file to HTML, with a live preview beside the source so you can see the result as you edit. GitHub Flavoured Markdown is supported, so tables, fenced code blocks, strikethrough and task lists all convert. It runs in your browser — useful when the file is an internal README or unpublished documentation.

Fragment or full page — get this right first

This choice decides whether the output drops cleanly into whatever you are pasting it into.

Fragment gives you the content only: the headings, paragraphs, lists and code blocks, with no <html>, <head> or <body> around them. That is what you want when the HTML is going inside something that already has a page — a CMS editor, a blog post, an email template, a component in your own site. Pasting a complete document into a CMS gives you a page inside a page, which browsers tolerate and stylesheets do not.

Full HTML page wraps everything in a proper document you can open in a browser or upload as-is. Use it when the output is the finished thing: documentation you are publishing, a README turned into a standalone page, something you are emailing as a file.

Which CSS to include

Pick None when the HTML is going into a site that already has its own styles. Any CSS you bring will either be ignored or will fight the theme, and untangling that afterwards is more work than it sounds.

GitHub Style renders it the way GitHub renders a README — system font, bordered headings, grey code blocks. That is the right pick for documentation, because the look is familiar to anyone who will read it. Basic Typography is a serif document layout, better suited to prose than to technical writing.

One quirk worth knowing: line breaks

This converter treats a single newline as a line break, producing a <br>. Strict Markdown does not — there, a single newline joins onto the same paragraph, and you need two trailing spaces or a blank line to force a break.

The behaviour here matches what GitHub comments and most chat tools do, which is what people generally expect, but it does mean that if you wrote a paragraph with your editor's soft-wrapping hard-wrapped into the file, every one of those wraps becomes a visible line break. If your output has more breaks than you intended, that is why: join those lines in the source, and leave blank lines only where you want new paragraphs.

The live preview is editable

The split preview is not just a display — you can edit the Markdown in it and the rendered side updates as you type. That makes it a quick way to fix a table that is not lining up or a code fence that was not closed, without going back to your editor and reconverting.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I choose Fragment or Full HTML page?

Fragment when the HTML is going inside something that already has a page — a CMS, a blog post, an email template. Full page when the output is the finished thing you will open in a browser or upload as-is. Pasting a full document into a CMS creates a page inside a page.

Why does my output have extra line breaks?

This converter treats a single newline as a line break, matching GitHub comments and most chat tools. Strict Markdown does not. If your source file is hard-wrapped, every wrap becomes a visible break — join those lines and leave blank lines only between paragraphs.

Does it support tables and code blocks?

Yes. GitHub Flavoured Markdown is enabled, so tables, fenced code blocks, strikethrough and task lists all convert correctly, as well as the standard headings, lists, links and emphasis.

Which CSS option should I pick?

None if the HTML is going into a site that has its own styles, since anything you bring will fight the theme. GitHub Style for documentation, because the look is familiar. Basic Typography for prose you want to read as a document.

Can I edit the Markdown here rather than in my editor?

Yes. The split preview is editable and the rendered side updates as you type, which is handy for fixing a misaligned table or an unclosed code fence without going back and reconverting.

Is my file uploaded anywhere?

No. The conversion runs in your browser, which matters when the file is an internal README, unpublished documentation or notes you would rather not put through someone else's server.
